The water coming to homes and schools through water supply in Jalandhar is not potable. Recently, the Health Department team had taken 16 water samples from different places. They were sent to the State Health Public Lab for testing. In the testing lab, 11 out of 16 water samples have failed. These include samples of water tanks installed in public places in homes and in schools.
The State Health Lab at Kharar has said in its report that bacterial contamination was found in 11 samples which did not report properly. Simply put, sewage water mixed with drinking water has been found. Sewerage bacteria have been found in the water. The department had also sent Gandhi Vanita Ashram sample in the city, whose sample itself has been found to be unsuccessful. Polluted water is also being supplied in Gandhi Vanita Ashram. Apart from this, water supply has also been found contaminated in the elite tower of Kalia Colony.
Apart from this, samples sent for water testing of Tej Mohan Nagar, Government Primary School Gona Chak, Gakhal, Government Primary School Bilga Talwan, Senior Secondary School Boys and Girls Talwan of sub-division Kartarpur have also been found failed. Whereas water samples taken from Government Primary School Pallowal (Kartarpur), Senior Secondary School Safipur, Government Primary School Pind Gillan, Government High School (Girls) Talwan, Shiv Kiran Public School Talwan have been found correct.
The lab said that the water whose samples have failed is so contaminated that it is not fit for drinking. The State Health Lab has given instructions in its report that chlorine should be added to the drinking water with immediate effect at the places where the samples have failed. After this, after not doing it again, samples of water should be sent again for testing in the lab so that it can be found that now the water is not of bacterial contamination again.
