India and Vs Zealand: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar appreciated the bilateral cricket ties between India and New Zealand. He said that India will always be grateful to former coaches John Wright and Stephen Fleming for their contribution to the development of the sport in the country.
The External Affairs Minister said, “When we think of New Zealand, a lot comes to our mind. I would say that a good example of our cooperation is indeed cricket itself. From the example of cooperation between the two countries on the cricket field. Other countries can follow.”
India’s foreign minister also referred to former India coach John Wright, who was from New Zealand. Jaishankar said that no one in India will ever forget John Wright or whoever watches an IPL match cannot ignore Stephen Fleming. With cricket we wish everyone the best even though we want our team to win. Let us tell you that John Wright was the coach of the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2005. Wright was the first foreign coach to join the Indian team. John also coached the New Zealand team from 2010 to 2012. Under his coaching, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup in 2003.
Ross Taylor Jaishankar’s Favorite Cricketer
S Jaishankar said, “I would say that Williamson of New Zealand will know the most about Indians. My favorite New Zealand cricketer is Ross Taylor.” At the same time, former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is the head coach of Chennai Super Kings. Fleming led CSK to the IPL crown on four occasions in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. Kiwi captain Williamson is the current captain of the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.
