Forced conversion is a threat to the security of the country: Supreme Court said – this is a serious issue, the central government should respond by November 22

The Supreme Court has termed the conversion of religion under pressure, deception or greed as a serious matter. During the hearing of a petition on Monday, the court said that forced conversions can be a threat not only to the right to religious freedom but also to the security of the country. Along with this, the court has asked the central government to file a reply by November 22 on the demand for a law against forced conversion. The next hearing will be on November 28.

Describing conversion as a very serious issue, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the Center to intervene in the matter. Also said that try honestly to stop this trend. The court also warned that if forced conversions are not stopped, very difficult situations will arise.

Center files affidavit

A bench of Justices MR Shah and Hima Kohli was hearing the Public Interest Litigation. The court has asked the Center and the state to take strict action in the cases of forced conversions by intimidation or greed.

Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, who filed the petition in this case, said that a separate law should be made to prevent such cases of conversions or this offense should be included in the Indian Penal Code. He also said that this issue is not related to any one place, but is a problem of the entire country which needs immediate attention.
