Feature Article: Malerkotla and Faridkot set examples across the country, 100% rural households provided water

Punjab has made a new achievement in its name. Malerkotla and Faridkot districts of the state have registered their names in the list of top states in the country in providing clean and safe water facilities to all rural households under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal’. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann congratulated the officers for this remarkable achievement.

He said that 8 districts across the country have been selected for providing clean water to 100% rural population through pipes and Malerkotla and Faridkot have made their place in the list of these 8 districts. It is a matter of great pride for Punjab that two districts of the state have been selected for this remarkable achievement. The total population of Malerkotla is 2.58 lakh and 49881 rural households were provided with safe water through pipes.

Clean water was supplied to 78408 households in Faridkot district, which has a total population of 4.09 lakhs. Under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, Punjab has provided piped drinking water to 34.24 lakh rural households and 100 percent water supply has been provided to 11933 villages and 20 districts. Punjab has set a target of 100 percent water supply by December 2022, while the national target is 2024. Bhagwant Mann informed that the state government has also provided piped water supply to Anganwadi centres, panchayats, dispensaries, schools etc. in villages.
