Environmental damage expected in Punjab: Canal banks to be paved in Faridkot; Cutting down trees will cause damage

The AAP government of Punjab has now started considering the matter of preserving the environment. But still only the environmental damage caused by the paving of canals in Faridkot has to be looked into. Whereas the NGT has also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 crore on the Punjab government this year for not properly managing the waste materials. Despite this, instead of preserving the environment in the entire state, the Punjab government is trying to look into the situation of Faridkot only.

Assembly speaker appealed to CM Mann
Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Kultar Singh Sandhwan has appealed to CM Bhagwant Mann to look into the concern of the local people regarding the damage to the environment due to the paving of canals in Faridkot. Due to this different organizations of Faridkot are also worried.

The matter raised before the Speaker of the Assembly

The issue of damage to trees due to the paving of canals by Society for Ecological and Environment Resources, Faridkot and Jal Jeevan Bachao Morcha, among others, was raised with the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly in the past. Speaker today appealed to the CM to resolve the matter. He told the CM that to save the environment, the people of Faridkot have made the area green by planting trees on the tracks of Rajasthan feeder and Sirhind feeder canals.

Canals are being paved with concrete
The people of Faridkot said that the banks of the canals are being paved with concrete, which will stop the seepage of water into the ground. He said that it would not be right to cut trees in Faridkot or nearby areas. People have appealed not to pave the canal from Bholu Wala bridge to Machaki Mall Singh Wala bridge so that the environment can be preserved.
