A one-day seminar on “Role of Ulemas in promoting a culture of interfaith peace and social harmony in Indonesia and India” has been organized at Islamic Cultural Center, New Delhi.
Jihad in Islam means fighting against the senses and the ego, not against the innocent. Extremism and fanaticism are perverted forms of religion. The fight against them should not be seen as a confrontation for a particular religion.
NSA Ajit Doval India said this at the Islamic Cultural Center. He was speaking on the role of Ulemas in promoting a culture of interfaith peace and social harmony in India and Indonesia.
A high level delegation of Ulemas has also come along with the Indonesian minister.
India-Indonesia are battling terrorism
He also said that both India and Indonesia have been victims of terrorism and separatism. These challenges have been overcome to a large extent, but cross-border terrorism and ISIS-inspired incidents continue to threaten humanity. These discussions of Ulema will strengthen the fight against violent extremism, terrorism and radicalization.
The meaning of Islam is peace and welfare
The NSA praised Islam saying- “Islam says that the most excellent form of Jihad is ‘Jihad Afzal’, ie Jihad against one’s senses or ego – and not against the innocent. A goal for which extremism, bigotry and religion There is a wrong use. It is not right, but a perverted form of religion, which needs to be raised against. Islam itself means peace and welfare (salamati/assalam). Whereas extremism and terrorism are just the opposite. Such forces Opposition should not be seen as a confrontation with a particular religion. It is just a ploy.”

Youth should pay attention to the teachings of religions
Doval said- “We should pay attention to the real message of religions, which teach humanity, peace and mutual understanding. Holy Quran also says that killing one man is like killing whole humanity and saving one, whole humanity. There is no place in our democracy for hate speech, propaganda, violence, controversies and misuse of religion to meet selfish ends. Our youth should pay special attention to this. They are often soft targets of bigotry. But If their energy is channelised in the right direction, they can be at the forefront of bringing change and progress in any society.”
Ulemas will be discussed in three sessions
Indonesian Minister Dr. Mohd Mahfud MD is also participating in the event. A high level delegation of Ulemas has also come with him. Who will discuss with Indian Ulemas. NSA Doval went to Indonesia in March this year for the second India-Indonesia Security Dialogue. It was he who had invited Mahfud to come to India. There will be discussion on 3 sessions in this event.
- First session- On Islam: Continuity and Change,
- Second session- Harmony in Interfaith Societies: Practice and Experience
- Third session- Countering radicalization and extremism in India and Indonesia.
