The Shivraj government is going to give Diwali gifts to the public representatives of urban bodies by increasing their salaries and allowances. The Urban Development and Housing Department has prepared its proposal. According to this, there is an increase of 33 to 87% in the salaries and allowances of the mayor, president and councilors of municipal corporations, while 56 to 71% increase is being given to the president, vice president and councilors of the municipality. The maximum salary and allowances of the president of the city councils have been increased by 128%. Let us tell you that the salary and allowances of the public representatives of the urban bodies are being increased after 12 years.

Ministry sources said that the Urban Development and Housing Department has prepared a proposal to amend the Municipal Corporation and Municipality (Remuneration and Allowances of Councilors) Rules, 1995 of MP. On this, the minister of the department Bhupendra Singh has given in-principle consent. The department will now soon send it to the Chief Minister’s Office for cabinet approval. After this the government will implement it through an ordinance.

Municipal corporation divided into two parts
According to the proposal, the municipal corporations are divided into two parts. first- Cities with a population of more than 10 lakhs. That is, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain are in this category. The salary of the mayor of these cities is being increased from Rs.11 thousand to Rs.20,000 per month, while the allowance will also be doubled to Rs.5,000. At the same time, the salary of the mayor of cities with population less than 10 lakh has been increased from Rs.11 thousand to Rs.15 thousand and allowance has also been increased from Rs.25,000 to Rs.

4 thousand difference in the salary and allowances of the corporation president
A difference of Rs 4,000 has been kept in the salary and allowances of the chairpersons of big and small municipal corporations. The salary of Speakers of Municipal Corporations having population of more than 10 lakhs has been increased from Rs. 9 thousand to Rs. 15 thousand. At the same time, the allowance has been increased from 1400 to 4 thousand rupees. At the same time, the salary of Municipal Corporation President of cities with less than 10 lakh population has been increased from 9 thousand to 12 thousand, while the allowance has been increased by Rs 1600.

The salary of councilors is now 10 thousand
Councilors of big municipal corporations will now get a salary of Rs 10,000 per month. Now they get 6 thousand rupees. Similarly, the salary of councilors of municipal corporations having population less than 10 lakh is being increased from Rs.6 thousand to Rs.8,000. The councilor’s salary is being increased from 1800 to 3 thousand in the municipality and from 1400 to 2 thousand in the city council.

Allowance is given according to the meetings

Please note that there is no specific councilor fund for development in the ward. He gets to spend only 50% of the property tax and other tax deposits received from his ward. Along with this, the ward councilor gets an allowance of Rs 125 to Rs 225 according to each meeting of the corporation. It is being increased from Rs 200 to Rs 500. In total, 15 to 20 meetings are held in the entire tenure, according to which 5 thousand rupees are available as sitting allowance. There is no provision of pension for Ward Councillor.
