Of those who had a stroke, a total of 41.4 percent had received the flu vaccine, while 40.5% were those who had never had a heart attack.
How low is the chance of a heart attack?
People who had received the flu vaccine were more likely to be older and have other conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which made them more likely to have a stroke. Once the researchers adjusted for those factors, they found that those taking the flu vaccine were 12 percent less likely to have a heart attack.
