In Thavai Tola of the same police station area, people of a particular community had attacked Mukesh with a deadly attack. Due to which he died.
The court pronounced its verdict on Friday in the case of Mukesh Kumar Sharma murder in Deoria. The court of District and Sessions Judge JP Yadav sentenced the four to life imprisonment. Also imposed a fine of Rs.5-5,000.
Akshay Kumar Sharma was murdered on November 1, 2003 in Thavai Tola of Gram Sabha Ghati under Bhatni police station area. He was returning home from the market. The boys of the minority class of the same village started teasing him by calling him Lohra Lohra. Mukesh refused to tease several times and went to his house.
Shortly after the accused Munawwar, Irshad, Siraj and Hasibullah along with their other six accomplices came to Mukesh’s door. On shouting and shouting, Mukesh came out of the house. The accused thrashed him badly with hockey, stick and rod. On being unconscious, the family took the injured Mukesh to the primary health center Bhatni. Where after the first aid, the doctors referred him to the district hospital. In the district hospital, the doctors started the treatment of the injured Mukesh. Mukesh died in the night on November 1 during treatment.
Case filed on father’s complaint
After the death of Mukesh, a case of murder against 10 people was registered in the police station Bhatni on the Tahrir of his father Akshay Kumar Sharma. Due to the murder of Mukesh and the accused being from another community, there was an atmosphere of tension in the area including the village for several days. Police forces and PACs of several police stations had to camp to maintain peace and order in the area. The administration also had to work hard to bring the situation back to normal.
The then MP of Gorakhpur had held a public meeting
In protest against the Thavai Tola massacre and the Samajwadi Party government did not arrest the accused of a particular class, the then MP of Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath (now the Chief Minister) had on November 4 held a public meeting in the Ghati market for strict action against the accused. During this, he attacked the then MLA of Bhatparani for defending the accused and also called wife Hanta.
Two killers died during the trial
Four of the 10 accused named in Mukesh’s murder were sent to the Juvenile Justice Board for hearing as they were declared juveniles. Where the case is still under consideration. Nakir Khan and Saraful Khan, named in the murder case, have died during the trial of the case.
Life imprisonment for four accused
After 18 years and 11 months, the district judge’s court convicted Siraj, Munavwar, Irshad and Hasibullah, who were adults at the time of the incident, in the case of massacre. The court has sentenced the four convicts to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 each.
