Triple Talaq Case: A Delhi-based doctor has been arrested at the Bengaluru airport for allegedly giving instant “triple talaq” to his wife, an offense under a 2019 law to protect Muslim women from the practice. The police gave this information on Sunday. Police told that the accused person was about to go abroad, before that he was caught.
Police said that the 40-year-old man was on his way to the UK from Bengaluru. The Delhi Police said that the man has committed an offense under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, by uttering “talaq, talaq, talaq” in one go.
The incident took place on October 13, 2022 but the matter came to light earlier this month when a 36-year-old woman approached police officials in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri. After investigation and technical surveillance, it was found that the accused was at Bengaluru airport from where a Delhi Police team intercepted him on February 9 and then arrested him. The police have not disclosed the name of the accused to avoid revealing the identity of the victim.

According to the FIR registered on February 1, the woman said that she lodged a complaint against her husband for giving “triple talaq” on October 13, 2022. Police said that the woman has said in her complaint that she had met the accused in 2018. Both married in 2020 and have no children. A few months after the marriage, the accused told his wife that he wanted to prepare for some exams and therefore wanted to stay somewhere else in Delhi to concentrate on his studies. He quoted the complaint as saying that within a year of marriage, the accused had gone to live in East Vinod Nagar in Kalyanpuri area while the woman was living in Lajpat Nagar.
Woman accused of beating
A senior police officer said that only after the husband moved to the new place, the woman felt changes in his behavior and decided to meet him. On October 13 last year, when she went to his house in Kalyanpuri, she found that he was living there with another woman. The woman accused the accused of extramarital affair. The accused allegedly beat her up and gave her “triple talaq” in front of his live-in partner.
