The BJP, while making a strong comment on the statements of P. Chidambaram and Shashi Tharoor, said- Minority in Congress means a particular class. Apart from them, they do not consider anyone as a minority. When Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister of the country, both these leaders were in his cabinet. But, the people of Congress probably do not consider Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister.
Congress called both the statements wrong
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, while issuing a statement on behalf of the party, said – India does not need to take lessons from any country. Many minorities have become President and Chief Minister in India. He cited the example of Zakir Hussain, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and APJ Abdul Kalam becoming the President. His statement is being seen as a rebuke to Chidambaram and Tharoor.

Jairam Ramesh, while answering the questions of journalists, said- what have they (Chidambaram and Tharoor) said, I will not speak on the remarks of any other leader. Congress is a democratic party. With Bharat Jodo Yatra, we are talking about the strength of democracy, while the autocracy of the Bharatiya Janata Party is visible to all. The one who gets the mandate in a democracy will become the Prime Minister. If someone is elected democratically, we have no problem.
