China Uyghurs Muslim News: China recently launched thousands of 5G base stations throughout its Xinjiang region. According to the US government-funded news service, these base station technologies have been installed for digital surveillance of Uyghur Muslims rather than economic development. China’s Ministry of Information Technology announced last month that the number of 5G base stations across China had exceeded 1.96 million.
“The high-quality industrial Internet network covers more than 300 cities in China, accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional Chinese enterprises,” China’s state-run media organization Xinhua quoted ministry official Wang Peng as saying. China has launched base stations in Xinjiang as part of a campaign aimed at fully digitizing its economy and society.
Uighur Muslims will increase surveillance
The introduction of 5G technology for broadband cellular networks in China was introduced in 2019. Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that Xinjiang has the largest land area of all China’s provinces at 642,800 square kilometres. RFA quoted experts as saying, “The 5G network rollout across the region will enhance the existing digital system that monitors the movement of residents, especially Uighur Muslims, through surveillance drones, facial recognition cameras, mobile phone scans.
