He has said that the Chandigarh airport will be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This demand was being raised for a long time. For this, there has been a tussle between Punjab and Haryana.
Long-running dispute between the two states
There has been frequent dispute between Punjab and Haryana regarding the name of Chandigarh airport. Although the central government has been naming the airport as Chandigarh Airport. At the same time, contrary to this name of the center, the Punjab government has been calling this airport as Mohali International Airport.
Haryana wanted to name Mangalsen
The Haryana government wanted to name the Chandigarh airport after Mangalsen. In the year 2007, on the birth centenary celebrations of Bhagat Singh, it was announced by the Punjab Government to name the Chandigarh airport as Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.
The matter had reached the High Court
The matter reached the High Court after the dispute between Punjab-Haryana increased in the name of the airport. The High Court directed both the states to sit together and settle the matter. Subsequently, in August, Punjab Haryana agreed to name the Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. An agreement was reached between CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala on this issue.

Punjab Aam Aadmi Party’s chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang has welcomed the Prime Minister’s decision. He has said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh is the pride of Punjab. The state government is also working in the development of Punjab by making the martyr a source of inspiration.
