Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
A case has been registered against 150 Nihangs for disrupting a program organized by Christian missionaries in Daduana village of Amritsar, Punjab. The Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht, Giani Harpreet Singh has opposed the registration of a case against Nihangs. Giani Harpreet Singh said that the case should be quashed, as the Nihangs were only opposing forced conversion.
Nihang leader Baba Major Singh and around 150 of his supporters were booked on the complaint of a local Christian leader, identified as a pastor, he said. A case under sections 295, 296, 427, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Jandiala Guru police station on Monday. Nihangs are those who strictly follow the Khalsa code of conduct.
For some time now, Christian missionaries have been forcibly converting Sikhs in a fake manner. Sikhs and Hindus of Punjab are being misled and converted. Governments are not ready to speak for votes.
The law does not allow forced conversion
Giani Harpreet Singh said that the law does not allow forcible conversion, but it is surprising how large-scale operations are being carried out in the border areas of Punjab. He urged the Center to intervene and stop the practice. Giani Harpreet said that the Punjab government should immediately quash the case against the Nihangs as the Sikh community stands with them. A meeting has also been called at Sri Anandpur Sahib on 5th September, in which the matter will be discussed.
Christians targeting Sikhs and Hindus
He said that Punjab is a border state. Foreign funding is coming here to run these religious campaigns. This is unfortunate and the Center needs to control it immediately. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Nihangs at first politely asked them not to perform the ceremony, but they remained adamant and forced the Nihangs to take action against them.
