Rishi Sunak: The United Kingdom has been witnessing a steady change of leadership for some time now. First Boris Johnson, then Liz Truss and now Indian-origin Rishi Sunak have become the Prime Minister of the country. However, he has given a clear message to Tory MPs even before taking oath. Soon after reaching the top post, Sunak, 42, gave a ‘do or die’ message to Tory lawmakers in a closed-door meeting, according to AFP news agency.
Rishi Sunak will officially take over as Prime Minister on Tuesday after meeting King Charles II as per protocol. Sunak is the first UK PM of South Asian heritage. He is also set to become the youngest Prime Minister of the country in nearly two centuries.
Sunak called for unity
Rishi Sunak, who will become Britain’s next prime minister in a matter of hours, has called for unity in the face of a “grave economic challenge”. In his first speech, Sunak said that bringing his party and the UK together would be his “top priority”.
