Arms smuggling module busted: Punjab Police arrested 2 accused including a prisoner; 10 foreign pistols recovered

Foreign weapons seized from the accused by Punjab Police.

The Punjab Police has busted a module smuggling drone-based weapons by arresting two people, including a prisoner. The arrested accused have been identified as Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Bhikhiwind of Tarn Taran lodged in Goindwal Sahib jail, and Ratanbir Singh, who came out on bail from Khemkaran. Police have also recovered 10 foreign pistols including China Made .30 bore and 59 mm (USA based Beretta) and eight spare magazines from the possession of the accused besides a mobile hidden from Jaskaran’s possession in his barracks.

AIG Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar, Amarjeet Singh informed that accused Jaskaran Singh was brought on production warrant in August 2022 in a case related to NDPS Act registered at SSOC Amritsar. During interrogation, Jaskaran has confessed that he was using mobile in jail to liaise with smugglers sitting in Pakistan to smuggle narcotics and arms/ammunitions from Pakistan with the help of drones. AIG said that for this he was taking the help of accused Ratanbir, who used to get consignments thrown by drones from different border areas.

Significantly, Ratanbir is also a co-accused with Jaskaran Singh in several NDPS cases. Police said that a consignment, including five .30 bore pistols and spare magazines, has been recovered from Jaskaran’s hideout at village Piddhi on Tarn Taran-Firozpur road, which Ratanbir had hidden between September 28 and 29.

AIG Amarjit Singh Bajwa said that acting on Jaskaran’s revelations, the Counter Intelligence Amritsar Police has succeeded in arresting Ratanbir from Khemkaran. On his disclosure, four additional magazines including 5 more pistols of 9 mm have been recovered, which he had hidden near the drain in Machike village of Khemkaran. It was told that an FIR has been registered in this regard on October 4 at SSOC Amritsar under the section of Arms Act.
