J&K News: Some new gadgets like hi-tech weapons, bullet-proof vehicles, wall-through radar are being used by the CRPF in anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir. These weapons were recently displayed by the CRPF at the Lethpora centre. Along with this, tribute was paid to 40 soldiers of the force who were martyred in 2019.
The induction of these hi-tech weapons has resulted in precise action against the militants. Many of these hi-tech devices were used in Tuesday’s operation in Pulwama against two TRF militants who were allegedly involved in the killing of Sanjay Sharma, a Kashmiri Pandit who worked as a bank guard.
CSRV and JCB cabin gives 180 degree, 360 degree protection
CRPF (Kashmir Operations) IG MS Bhatia said that a Critical Situation Response Vehicle (CSRV) was used in the encounter that took place on Tuesday (February 28). It can be used to maneuver a room or surround an enemy. Its turning radius is very less. It is bulletproof and can be used to break walls. We also have bullet-proof JCBs.
The IG said that in CSRV and JCB, a forklift is fitted with a bullet-proof cabin, so that the security personnel can take advantage of the height against the enemy without being exposed to danger. The CSRV cabin provides 180 degree protection while the JCB bullet proof cabin provides 360 degree protection for the soldiers inside.
Drones vital for anti-militancy operations in Valley
Bhatia further said that drones are also being used by the force and they have played an important role in anti-terrorist operations in the valley. Drones are something that is increasingly being used by us to monitor the national highways during the movement of our convoys. Drones are also used a lot during the Amarnath Yatra. We also use drones to develop combat situations in operational scenarios. To see where the enemy is hiding or whether he has been neutralised.
Wall-through radar (WTR) and hand-held thermal imagers (HHTI) are other gadgets that have reduced the risk of soldiers in complex operations. HHTI is also used. We have them in every battalion, especially in South Kashmir, which is more affected as far as militancy is concerned. They are also acting as force multipliers while moving towards jungles and hideouts. When shooting in the dark, it helps to know the exact focus
Bullet proof vehicles launched on a large scale
Bhatia said the CRPF has used technology like CCTV surveillance on the entire national highway in the valley after the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. “We have set up 14 nakas on the NH, all equipped with CCTV cameras and the footage is checked and analyzed by officials round the clock,” he said. Bhatia said that bullet proofing of vehicles used by CRPF has been taken up in a big way.
He said that we have launched bullet proof vehicles on a large scale. Some of them are made in factories while some are locally manufactured. We have introduced mine-proof vehicles and medium bullet-proof vehicles in the valley. They are also working as multipliers so that our jawans feel safe.
Weapons are used according to the situation
The IGP said, “We use our telescopic guns as well, but the AK-47 is one of the weapons we use in the valley.” MP-5 rifles are now being used by the force in the Valley and the CRPF has procured MP-5 rifles for the men involved in special operations. MP-5 weapons are with the CRPF in the valley but they are used according to the situation.
