UN Report On China Uyghur: The US has strongly criticized Beijing for its frequent violations of human rights of minority communities in China’s Xinjiang province and other regions, including Tibet. China has called it a conspiracy of Western countries. In fact, the United Nations report states that the forced detention of people of the Uighur community and others in Xinjiang, China, may come under the purview of a crime against humanity.
What did America say?
The US, along with its partners and the international community, also pledged to hold Beijing accountable for the abhorrent acts against its own people and human rights violations, White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said in Xinjiang on Thursday. Welcoming the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the human rights situation, which was released on Wednesday night.
Jean-Pierre said, “The report further adds to our concerns about the genocide in China and crimes against humanity. Our position on atrocities in Xinjiang is clearly visible in our words and actions.” Jean-Pierre also said that the US welcomes this report, this important report, which officially describes the abhorrent human rights treatment of Uighurs and other minority communities by the Chinese government.
Jean-Pierre pointed out that the Biden administration has taken concrete steps and the president has mobilized allies and partners, including the G7, to ensure that all places, including Xinjiang, are free of forced labor.
Jean-Pierre said, “We will continue to work closely with our partners and the international community to hold China accountable. We call on China to immediately end these atrocities in Xinjiang, Tibet and throughout China, release unjustly detained people, trace the missing, and allow independent investigators to reach Xinjiang unhindered.”
What did China say on the report?
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has criticized the much-awaited report released by the outgoing UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet. Bachelet visited Xinjiang after a long diplomatic conflict with Beijing. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin alleged at a news conference, “The so-called assessment is planned and produced by the US and some other Western powers. It is completely illegal and redundant.”

What did US Secretary of State Antony Blinken say?
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement that the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights office’s report released on August 31 gives alarming details of human rights violations and abuses taking place in Xinjiang.
