Actor Amanda Bynes has been put on psychiatric hold after she was seen roaming the streets of Los Angeles alone and without clothes, as per reports. The incident occurred on Sunday morning. As per the latest update on NBC News, the 36-year-old actor is on a 72-hour hold. She is currently in hospital where she will be receiving care. It’s believed that she isn’t hurt.
TMZ also quoted eyewitnesses saying the American actor waved down a passing vehicle during the incident and told the driver that she was coming down from a ‘psychotic episode’. They also said that she herself dialled 911 for help.
A close source to the incident also told NBC News that Amanda ‘hasn’t been in contact with her family for quite some time.’ While her longtime attorney didn’t comment on the matter, her ex-fiancé Paul Michael said she has been off her meds reportedly.
Reacting to the incident, a fan wrote on Twitter, “Amanda Bynes deserved so much more than what the pressures and machinations of childhood stardom have done to her. She’s so goddamn talented and wonderful it just breaks my heart.” “The fact that Amanda Bynes flagged a car down, told them she was having a psychotic episode and called 911 herself actually gives me a lot of hope for her well-being. That’s a huge deal. When she’s ready, I hope she can be proud of herself for that,” added another.
Someone also said, “Shout out to that driver who stopped for a lone naked woman who self-assessed her own mental distress in DOWNTOWN LA to help Amanda Bynes and not assault her. Really proud of that person. proud of Amanda too. I really hope she can get the help she needs.”
The incident occurred almost one year after the court terminated Amanda’s conservatorship. She submitted a petition to dissolve the arrangement. She was supported by her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes.
She was in personal conservatorship since 2013 after she was struggling with her mental health. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Besides this, a series of incidents further fulled the situation when the actor set her neighbour’s driveway in fire, almost engulfed her dog in fire and was sent to a psychiatric ward for help.
Reportedly, she was scheduled to attend the 90s Con in Connecticut this weekend, which she cancelled due to health-related issues. Amanda Bynes began her career as a child actor in Nickelodeon’s comedy series All That (1996–2000) and had a breakthrough with her show, The Amanda Show (1999–2002). She appeared in TV shows like All That, What I Like About You, and Family Guy. She also appeared in films including Big Fat Liar, What a Girl Wants, Love Wrecked, Sydney White and Easy A. She announced an indefinite hiatus from acting in 2010.
