In 2021, Punjab De Sangathan became the successor
Before the Punjab assembly elections, on September 30, 2021, Deep Sidhu founded an organization named Waris Punjab De, which was formed to protect Punjab officials. Deep Sidhu’s name came to the fore for the first time in the Kisan Andolan on January 26, 2021, in the violence at the Red Fort on Republic Day. At that time the flag of the Khalsa Panth ‘Nishan Sahib’ was hoisted on the Red Fort. The police had identified the man who waved the flag as Jugraj Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district of Punjab. While not stating the political agenda, Deep Sidhu told the purpose of Waris Punjab De Organization to advance the fight for the rights of Punjab. However, in the election, Sidhu supported Simranjit Singh Mann’s pro-Khalistan party and also campaigned for him. However, Sidhu died in a car accident in Haryana on February 15, 2022, just before the Punjab elections.
Amritpal took advantage
The sudden death of Deep Sidhu left his supporters alone and left vacant at the head of Waris Punjab De Sangathan, which Amritpal Singh took advantage of and made Punjab a base for furthering his separatist agenda among Khalistani supporters. In the year 2022 itself, Amritpal returned to Punjab from Dubai and created a website named Waris Punjab De to connect people. Through this, he started presenting himself as the new chief of Waris Punjab De. Deep Sidhu used to talk only about Punjab and Amritpal also chose the same path. But, Amritpal’s words were sharper than Deep Sidhu’s. All its videos went viral on social media, due to which the youth started connecting again.
Amritpal takes over as chief
On September 29, 2022, Amritpal Singh’s name suddenly started popping up for the post of chief of Waris Punjab De Sangathan. Amritpal took over as the head of the organization and organized a ‘Dastar Bandi’ ceremony at Road in Moga district. Here is the ancestral village of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. The crowd of thousands involved in the ceremony raised slogans in support of Khalistan. Meanwhile, Amritpal declared himself as the head of Waris Punjab De organization.
