Actor Deepshikha Nagpal recently underwent a major surgery for cysts in her stomach. While she is currently recovering, Nagpal admits putting up a strong front through it all wasn’t easy.
“This time, when I was sick, I cried and cried and cried. I asked my doctor if it was post-surgery depression as I had started behaving like a child, fussing about small things. I ran home and cried in front of my children that I can’t do it alone,” the Ranju Ki Betiyaan actor shares, adding that as a single mother, she missed the “warmth of a partner”. “When you are sick and at home, you need that warmth. I missed it this time. I wish someone was there. I am tired of handling everything alone. Yes, I am a strong woman, but I will not deny that I miss a partner in my life at times,” she shares.
The 45-year-old, who is a mother of two — Vedhika (21) and Vivaan (15) — recalls consulting a doctor after experiencing consistent pain in her stomach. “He advised me to get a sonography done. I didn’t pay much attention to it until one day, my daughter pointed out how my stomach looks like I am pregnant. Then, I went for the sonography and found that I had a cyst that was as big as a 10-week pregnancy. The doctor told me that it would keep growing and might turn into cancer. I thought, ‘What if something happens to me?’ I have to look after my children. So, I got the surgery done,” she recounts.
Worried about her work throughout this phase, Nagpal says she was back to the set in no time: “Initially, the doctors had asked me to take 15-day bed rest. But, for someone like me, who is super active and doesn’t like sitting at home, it was impossible. In fact, I had not told anyone on the set about my surgery. But, the day I went for the shoot, there was so much hustle. Nothing has happened to me. That’s when everyone got to know and they were very supportive after that.”
