In Jhansi, the accused of killing a villager who came to save a minor for molesting a minor, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the court considering him guilty of culpable homicide. A fine of Rs 21200 has been imposed on him. Failure to pay will result in additional imprisonment of 3 months. Special Judge (POSCO Act) Anjana gave this verdict on Wednesday.

The incident is of 22 July 2016. Then Jaswant Ahirwar, son of Ranjit alias Bade (30), a resident of Amgaon of Poonch police station, was molesting a 17-year-old girl from Ahirwar village. The mother reached after the victim raised her voice. Then Ranjit attacked the mother and the victim with a bar. When the mother-daughter shouted, Radheshyam of the village came to the rescue. When Ranjit picked up a brick and hit him, Radheshyam fell. Hearing the sound, when the people around arrived, Ranjit ran away. Radheshyam died on the way to the hospital. At the same time, 15 days after the incident, the victim girl committed suicide by hanging herself at home.

On the complaint of the victim’s father, the Poonch police had registered a case under sections like culpable homicide not amounting to murder, abetment to suicide, assault, molestation etc. After a lengthy trial, the court acquitted the accused Ranjit for abetment of suicide and attempt to murder due to lack of evidence. He has also been sentenced for the offenses of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, molestation and assault.
