Due to all these reasons, the Central Consumer Protection Authority has passed an order against Cloudtail India Pvt Ltd. These standards have been set under the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order, 2020.
Action against e-commerce
According to the official statement, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has also been imposed on the company. The Central Consumer Protection Authority itself had initiated action against e-commerce platforms taking cognizance. “Cloudtail India Pvt Ltd is a seller of Amazon Basics Stainless Steel Outer Lid Pressure Cooker, 4 Ltrs,” it said in the statement. The pressure cooker was sold in the online sale.
Cloudtail, in its reply to the CCPA, said it had stopped the sale of this pressure cooker after the quality control order came into effect. However, the CCPA said, “these pressure cookers are still being sold”.
Violation of quality control on Amazon
The consumer commission has already violated the quality standard on Amazon. Amazon sold pressure cookers that were defective. The consumer commission had ordered Amazon not only to pay the fine, but also to take back the sold cookers from the customers and pay the relevant amount. After this order of the commission, Amazon had recalled about 2,265 pressure cookers.
